When he came back to Italy, he devoted himself in producing electricity and achieved the first lighting of the city, using waters of Irno’s river.
He managed for many years the electric company of Salerno, that was one of the first italian cities to have electric streetlamps replacing gas lamps.
In the meantime, in the mid-twenties, he focused himself on the construction of an impressive building faced on the two main important roads of Salerno : “Corso Garibaldi” and “Lungomare Trieste”.
The palace, designed by Matteo D’Agostino, was finished in 1928.
The engineer Santoro, with his wife , Baroness Francesca Pizzuti di Montecorvino Rovella, and his sons Francesco, Teresa, Giulia e Renato, lived in the spacious apartment at the second floor, now designated as “Donna Giulia, Luxury House”, in loving memory of engineer’s third daughter .
He died in 1930, his bronze portrait today is situated in the lobby of the building. A Rome street has his name, in his honor.
